A. It shall be unlawful for any person to commence any exploration activity as defined herein without first obtaining a permit to do so from the Chief. The application for the permit shall be in such form as the Chief may prescribe and shall be accompanied by a fee of $250 and such other information as may be required by this chapter. B. The application for a permit to carry out any exploration activity shall be accompanied by a bond, payable to the Commonwealth, with surety acceptable to the Chief. The bond shall ensure compliance with the provisions of this chapter and any regulations promulgated hereunder relating to the drilling, redrilling, plugging and abandoning of any exploration activity. The bond shall be set by the Chief in such amount as may be deemed reasonable and necessary. C. An initial permit shall be valid for a period of one year, and may be renewed for a like period of time. 1982, c. 269.
